Companies Worth Working for in 2022
Great companies know how to hire awesome employees like you and keep them happy. At these companies, the employees stay for decades and grow to be stronger brand ambassadors than when they started. So what are some things to look for when searching for one of these forever companies?
Clear job postings
When you’re job hunting, you should be asking yourself two things: Can I do this job? and Do I want to do this job? A great job description has both these covered. It not only gives a clear description of what the job does and what skills are needed to do it, but it also defines measurements for success in the position. Are goals measured in sales, leads, user ratings…? When you know both the job duties and the measurements of success, you can honestly evaluate if you’re willing and able to meet those standards.
Stellar company reviews
You can’t fake or buy five-star reviews on sites like Indeed and Glassdoor. Happy employees just say happy things! But even when the company has a great overall rating, you still want to read the employees’ reasons behind their reviews. Do the reviews match the company’s value message? Does the organization respond to negative reviews with nasty or defensive feedback?
Respectful time management
The interview process gives you your first glimpse into a company’s operations. Do they take months to acknowledge your application? Do they keep you waiting in the lobby 45 minutes past your scheduled interview time? Do they reschedule your interview? Do you have three phone screenings, six panel interviews, a background investigation, and an agility test? Savvy companies will have their act together and will respect your time. After all, they should understand it’s tough to coordinate work and life around a job search. Look for companies that respond timely, keep to their schedules, and proactively let you know the next steps in the hiring process. A company that is disorganized or disrespectful at this level is unlikely to be better in other areas.
A compensation strategy
Smart companies have fair-market pay ranges for each position, with standard floor, middle, and ceiling rates. While there may be some room for salary negotiation, it may not be much. At a great company, take comfort knowing you probably won’t be lowballed at hire and you’ll probably get fair and consistent pay raises. People with the same title doing the same work should be following the same pay trajectory, so there’s no worry about someone new getting hired at the salary it took you five years to work up to.
An eye on your future
A truly great company values you enough to support your career goals and development, and its leaders are willing to help you get there. Look for a company that offers professional development opportunities, arranges mentorships, and helps you learn what you need to promote or transfer to a different department, if that’s your goal.

The “better” way to conduct layoffs
Layoffs are hard on everyone. Even as business leaders and HR professionals, layoffs are one of the hardest things we have to do. Resolve conflict like a champ
We’re hard-pressed to say conflict resolution is a fun or glamorous part of a Human Resources or leadership role, but it’s one of the most critical parts. How you mediate conflict impacts employee morale and retention, and also shows your leadership abilities and your willingness to tackle the tough stuff. Your conflict resolution skills can […]
Stop! and hire this candidate
It’s easy to criticize potential hires and spot reasons why we shouldn’t hire them. That one is too arrogant, that one lacks technical skills, and that one knows nothing about the company. Process of elimination, right? But too often we fail to recognize the positive reasons why we should hire someone. Positive flags can be […]
