How to Survive a Bad Work Week
Are you having a week you just wish would end? Whether it’s a sweat-inducing deadline, a missed promotion, or another clash with that coworker, we all have weeks concocted from the very bowels of Hades—ones that cost us our sleep and sanity. But take heart! The week will end, and these four tips can help you ride it out.
- Get enough sleep. It can be tough to sleep well during a disheartening or stressful week. But a good night’s sleep is essential to your body’s ability to repair and recharge, and it can actually reduce your stress levels. If you find yourself fighting sleep or waking frequently, try wearing yourself out right before bed by hitting the gym or following an exercise video. And you can always settle down your brain with a good book.
- Plan something to look forward to. It’s easier to push through when you can see the light at the end of the tunnel! So plan something simple but fun for the weekend ahead, like a camping trip, a night in with friends, or a spa day. Keep your mind moving forward instead of getting mired in a bad week.
- Take a bath (or a Jacuzzi). Ladies and gentlemen alike can benefit from a good soak, with or without stress-relieving aromatherapy. A just-before-bed shower can do in a pinch, but a bath or Jacuzzi will best immerse your body in muscle-relaxing, mind-soothing warmth. All you have to do is give in!
- Take a mental health day. We all need a mental health day now and again to rest and recharge. There’s no shame and no need to fake a cough! The key to a success is to separate from work completely—no checking your phone or email, or thinking about the projects waiting in your inbox. Just sleep in and spend the day doing what makes you feel happy and relaxed.
We all have bad weeks, but do your best to focus on the positive and know that it will all be over soon!

Resolve conflict like a champ
We’re hard-pressed to say conflict resolution is a fun or glamorous part of a Human Resources or leadership role, but it’s one of the most critical parts. Stop! and hire this candidate
It’s easy to criticize potential hires and spot reasons why we shouldn’t hire them. That one is too arrogant, that one lacks technical skills, and that one knows nothing about the company. Process of elimination, right? But too often we fail to recognize the positive reasons why we should hire someone. Positive flags can be […]
