How to Survive a Bad Workweek

Are you having a week you just wish would end? Whether it’s a looming deadline, poor feedback, or another snippy email exchange with that coworker, we all have weeks that leave us clambering for the finish line. But take heart! Your bad workweek will end, and this guide can help you ride it out.

Get some sleep

Easier said than done during a rough week, but a good night’s sleep can bring down your stress levels, plus your body needs sleep to repair and recharge itself. If you find yourself fighting sleep or waking often, try wearing yourself out right before bed by working out in the gym or to an exercise video. You can always settle down your brain after with a good book.

Plan something to look forward to

No light at the end of the tunnel? Make one! Plan something simple but fun for the weekend ahead, like a camping trip, a night in with friends, or takeout from your favorite restaurant. Keep working toward it!

Enjoy a toasty soak

Everyone can benefit from the muscle relaxation and mind-soothing warmth of a bath or hot tub, with some stress-relieving aromatherapy to boot. A just-before-bed shower can do in a pinch.

Take a mental health day

Sometimes you need a “you” day to be your best. There’s no shame and no need to fake sick! The key to success is to totally unplug from work—no checking your messages or thinking about the projects waiting in your inbox. Just sleep in and spend the day doing what makes you feel happy, relaxed, or fulfilled.

Bad weeks happen. When they do, prioritize your health, focus on the positive, and know that it will all be over soon!
