How boring are your job postings? While it’s true that your job postings should be informative in all the right ways, you don’t want them to read like the 1980s classified ads. You want to keep your job postings professional, but you also want to use language that reflects your company’s culture (and isn’t totally boring). Are you friendly, relaxed, fun? Share a bit about your company, why it’s a great place to work, and why this position offers such a great opportunity. What words or titles can you use that are unique to your company (Director of First Impressions, Administrative Ninja)? Entice candidates who are like-minded and who will mesh well.

Salary and Benefits

If your company has a defined salary range for this position, include it in the job posting. Including the salary range saves time and heartache by attracting candidates willing to accept the offered wage. When you talk about benefits, remember that you’re also touting total compensation, work-life balance, and a mission that aligns with potential job candidates’ sensibilities. What does your company do to make the work experience more enjoyable? Do you offer special benefits like flex schedules, on-site childcare, sabbaticals, or gym memberships? How does your company give back to the community?

Future Opportunities and Growth

Thinking about a new job often means thinking about the future, or at least the next steps on the path. Let your posting show that this position isn’t a dead end—that you’re proactively thinking about the next steps for this employee, too. Talk about the long-term goals for the position. Share the company’s professional development options, such as mentorship and coaching, training opportunities, and tuition reimbursement. You could also share the average time until employees reach the next level in the department.
